The team at HELP have been whisking, kneading and mixing to raise cash to support older people across the Harrogate District.

HELP held a bake sale at Community House last week to celebrate the 2016 series of Great British Bake Off. Tenants and visitors of the building dug deep and enjoyed treats including Raspberry Puddle Brownie, Gingerbread and Fairy Cakes. As well as raising a smile among the customers, the team raised £56.70 towards supporting socially isolated older people in the local community.

HELP is encouraging people to make cake for cash by holding their own ‘bake off’ in aid of the charity. Workplaces, social groups and organisations are great places to hold a bake sale and a very easy way of raising money for your nominated charity.

Anna Woollven, Project Development Worker at HELP, said: “It is estimated that £185m was raised in 2014 for charity in bake sales alone, many of which were inspired by the popular TV series. Whether you’re a complete novice or a budding Nadiya Hussain, anyone can have a go at making a cake and raising money for charity. The series runs until the end of October so there’s plenty of time to plan and hold your Bake Off!”
