We asked for inventive ideas – and you certainly delivered!

Our intrepid 2.6 Challengers jointly did 26 cartwheels, 2.6 miles of garden laps, an online scavenger hunt, played 26 games of table tennis, did 26 trampoline somersaults, shot 26 baskets, did 26 non stop hand springs, did a 2.6 mile run, sang and danced to 26 show tunes, put in a 2.6 hour stint on a home cycling/rowing machine, went on a 26k bike ride and baked 26 biscuits. Monty the dog even joined in performing an impressive 26 begging spins! It must have been a very tasty treat!

Jointly your efforts raised over £2,000 to ensure we can be ‘Here to HELP’ during the Covid-19 crisis. Thank you everyone!

Throughout this pandemic, we’re seeing heroes at work helping to protect and supply the nation. One particular group of heroes is our dedicated ‘Here to HELP’ volunteers. Every day they are on the front line delivering essential supplies and moral support to vulnerable people across the Harrogate district.

Despite being needed more than ever before, charities are struggling at the moment. Small charities like ours are really hard hit as community fundraising events have been cancelled and client donations have all but dried up.

That’s why we’re inviting you to take part in the 2.6 Challenge from Sunday 26th April.  This day should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one-day annual fundraising event.

We’re asking you to take part in an activity of your choice based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to support HELP!

What is the 2.6 Challenge? 
People of all ages are taking on the 2.6 Challenge with a host of activities– from walking, running or cycling 2.6 miles, juggling for 2.6 minutes, to holding online workouts with 26 friends. The good news is you don’t have to be sporty to be a Home Hero and raise money. Baking 26 cakes, holding a 26 question quiz, creating a 26 track playlist for a kitchen disco and even eating 26 ‘Marathons’ (the old name for ‘Snickers’ bar for anyone under 40) are just some of the ideas we’ve come up with.  The ideas and options are endless!

What are the rules?
The only requirement is that you must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing. Most people are taking part from Sunday 26 April but you can do your activity whenever is most convenient for you.

How do I get started?

  1. Dream up your 2.6 challenge – if you need help there are lots of ideas here
  2. Head to the Virgin Money Giving website to donate £2.60, £26 – or whatever you can afford ­– to HELP or to set up a fundraising page
  3. Ask all your friends and family to sponsor you and perhaps even challenge them to do their own 2.6 Challenge
  4. Complete your challenge
  5. Maybe even share a photo or video of your challenge on social media using #TwoPointSixChallenge

Your donation, however large or small, will ensure we continue to be ‘Here to HELP’ for those in need at this critical time.
