Pull on your walking boots and join Team HELP in the district’s biggest charity fundraiser!

We’re looking for people to take part in the challenge of their choice in this year’s Nidderdale Charity Walk & Run taking place on Sunday 8th May organised by the fantastic team at the Rotary Club of Harrogate.

The annual event aims to help small local charities who don’t have the resources to run their own walking/running event and raise much needed funds. The Covid pandemic has had a huge impact on community fundraising income for charities like HELP, and so every penny raised will be very much appreciated.

This year there will be five routes available, ranging from an easy “family” route of just 4 miles, up to an all-day 26-mile challenge.  There are flexible start times for each route, although there is a latest permitted start time for each. All routes start and finish at the same point in Pateley Bridge.

Be part of the HELP team

We would like to recruit a team of walkers to participate to raise much needed funds for HELP. If ten or more people sign up to support HELP, the Rotary Club will donate 80% of all our entry fees, in addition to any sponsorship you can get from family and friends!

Signing up

To register your place and choose your distance, please visit www.nidderdalewalk.com and don’t forget to select HELP as your chosen charity. Your entry fee is payable to The Rotary Club of Harrogate, and enables them to make donations to their partner charities, and also covers their costs (which they keep to a minimum thanks to their team of volunteer marshals giving up their time free of charge). Most routes are just £10 for adults, with concessions for children/families and the shortest route is only £5.  Once you have registered please let us know, as we won’t be automatically notified.

Fundraising

We would encourage all our walkers to please seek sponsorship from their family and friends. There is no minimum amount to raise. You can set up an online fundraising page on Just Giving at https://justgiving.com/hadca

Simply click “fundraise for us” on the right hand side, and follow the instructions. You will need to create an account if you don’t already have one.

We can also provide paper sponsor forms if needed – just drop us a line to request one (or more!)

Getting there

Please make your own way to the start at the Pateley Bridge Scout Hall before the latest starting time for the distance you have chosen. There is a large car park near the Scout Hut just the other side of the river accessed by crossing the river at the bottom of the High Street and turning right (north) on the Low Wath Road. The entrance is just past the caravan park. There will be a charge but the owners have said they will give a donation to Rotary.  Cross the river bridge to reach the Scout Hut.

Safety, route information and equipment

Please visit www.nidderdalewalk.com/#essential-information where all of the relevant information is available. Please note that this event is not organised or run by HELP and therefore all specific queries about the walk, parking, registration etc should be directed to the Rotary Club.
