Help at Home is a gardening, decorating and odd job service covering the whole of the Harrogate District

Take a look at a typical gardening task for our Help at Home team… in just 48 seconds:

Jobs around the home can become a worry when you are unable to do the work yourself and cannot afford to pay private tradespeople. People turn to Help at Home as a trusted, affordable service to assist with practical work.

What we do
Our support workers work together with volunteers to offer:

  • Annual garden tidy up
  • Painting
  • Basic DIY and small repairs
  • Odd jobs e.g. moving furniture, defrosting freezers, clearing out a shed, taking items to the tip etc

Who do we help?
Priority is given to people living on their own who can no longer manage to carry out the tasks themselves, have no family help or cannot afford a professional service. We assist people across the entire Harrogate district.

How much will it cost?
The Help at Home service does not have a fixed charge, but we ask that you cover the cost of materials used (e.g. paint) and we welcome contributions towards our labour costs.  Before we begin the work we will discuss the amount of your contribution towards these costs depending on the job required and your own personal circumstances. All contributions are reinvested into the scheme to help with running costs, purchase equipment and volunteers’ expenses.

How long will I have to wait?
We work on outside jobs during the summer months and indoor over the winter. We try to fit in odd jobs in between our larger jobs. The length of our waiting list varies but we will get to you as soon as we possibly can, We will call you before we come to ensure the timing is convenient for you.

Are there any jobs you cannot help with?
No job is too small for our team. However, our service does not extend to regular garden maintenance. We are not qualified to do electrical work or plumbing. Please note, the length of our waiting list varies but we will get to people as soon as we can.
