Help at Home clients recently benefitted from the skills of joiner, Simon from Yorkshire-based Nest Kitchens. Usually busy at work installing bespoke kitchens, Nest Kitchens kindly offered Simon’s services to the Help at Home team. Over the few days Simon was with the team, he set to work refitting and repairing doors, as well as completely transforming a client’s tired-looking wooden draining unit.
Simon was particularly pleased to be able to assist a gentleman whose outhouse door had become swollen in the rain. This meant the client could not access his fridge freezer or washing machine. The gentleman was also worried about the appliances’ security as the swollen door would not lock.
The client initially thought he might require a new door. However, Simon was able to take the door off, plane it down and repair it to full working order.
Thanks to Simon’s specialist skills and tools, the team members were able to tackle jobs in half the time and also finish them to a very high standard. Simon enjoyed his time with the team and said:
“I think it’s a great service. I only hope I have people like you helping me when I get older.”
This is the second stint of volunteering Nest Kitchens has carried out with Help at Home. In 2016, the company provided and installed a new kitchen for an elderly client, whose kitchen was unsafe and difficult for her to use.
Christine Turner, Help at Home Service Coordinator, said: “Our small team is inundated with demand for assistance with practical work around the home. We are very grateful to Nest Kitchens for their ongoing support. Having Simon, and his considerable skills with us, was a real help and our clients really appreciated his high quality work.”
