COVID 19 – sign up as a Here to HELP volunteer!
As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues across the UK, it is hard for people to keep themselves safe and well at home and maintain their social connections. Looking out for our neighbours has never been more important, and we can all do our bit to ensure that people who need a little extra help are not forgotten at this time – be they family, friends or neighbours.
It is crucial that we all follow the advice issued by the government so that everyone in the district stays safe and well, and at HADCA we are taking the lead from North Yorkshire County Council in terms of adjustments to the HELP services we already provide that support older and vulnerable people.
If you’re over 18 years of age, healthy and at low-risk (see NHS guidelines ) you can now sign up to become a Here To Help Volunteer and help others in Harrogate or Ripon, with tasks such as food shopping and prescription pick ups for the most vulnerable in our community.
Read more about how you can play your part and find out where to turn for safe and trusted support on the HADCA website.
Befriending roles – do you enjoy other people’s company? Are you a good listener? Opportunities exist as voluntary befrienders with our HELP Ripon & Rural team. As a voluntary befriender you will be providing much-needed social contact for people who may be at risk of social isolation.
Take care and stay safe. Remember, we’re Here to HELP!
(Please note, all our other volunteering roles have been paused for the time being. Please call us on 01423 813090 about other ways to get involved).
Volunteering roles in normal times include:
One off opportunities
Fundraising – we regularly hold fundraising events, such as coffee mornings and concerts. This is a fun way to get involved on an ad hoc basis.
Are you a group of colleagues or friends who would like to help out for a few hours? Why not get a team of you together to help transform a garden, repaint someone’s home or organise a fundraising event. Many hands really do make light work.
Regular volunteering opportunities
There are lots of ways you can get involved at times to fit in with your busy schedules
Driving roles – Regular and adhoc driving roles are available for both our Ripon and Harrogate based voluntary car driving services. Our volunteer drivers offer door-to-door transport to passengers who would otherwise struggle to get to appointments, to make essential journeys and get to social activities. Volunteers are reimbursed directly by the client for expenses.
Social group volunteers – could you help out at one of our regular social groups? This involves meeting and greeting, making guests feel at ease and getting involved with activities such as craft. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meeting new people and likes to chat.
